Charity At Work

How The Charity Project Works

The Charity Project has been designed to make charitable giving as simple as possible for both employers and employees.

Once implemented, the programme requires very little effort from participants while creating meaningful impact every month.

Step 1: Your Company Joins The Programme

Your employer partners with The Charity Project and chooses to offer the programme as a workplace benefit to employees.

The programme is introduced to staff through internal communication and employees are invited to participate voluntarily.

Participation is never compulsory.

Step 2: Employees Register

Employees who would like to participate complete a simple online registration form.

The form allows employees to:

• Join the programme

• Select their preferred monthly contribution amount

• Select their preferred charity from an approved list of partner charities

• Confirm participation in the monthly promotional draw

Employees may choose any contribution amount that suits their circumstances.

A portion of each contribution is retained by The Charity Project to cover the administration, management, reporting, compliance, technology, and ongoing operation of the programme. Currently this amount is 15%.

The remaining funds are allocated to the employee’s selected charity.

Step 3: Payroll Deduction Begins

Once registered, the employee’s selected contribution amount is deducted automatically from their salary each month.

The deduction will appear on their payslip as a contribution to The Charity Project.

The employee only needs to register once.

The contribution will continue automatically until the employee decides to change or cancel their participation.

Step 4: Monthly Impact Reporting

Every month, participating businesses receive an impact update showing:

• Number of participating employees

• Total amount donated

• Charities supported

• Collective impact created by the organisation

This allows employees to see the difference their contributions are making.

Step 5: Monthly Promotional Draw

Every registered participant is automatically entered into the monthly promotional draw.

Employees may also qualify for additional entries based on their contribution level and the rules of the promotion.

Prizes may include travel experiences, accommodation vouchers, technology products, and other rewards.

All promotional draws are conducted in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.

Step 6: Annual Section 18A Certificates

At the end of each tax year, participating employees receive a Section 18A certificate reflecting their qualifying donations made through the programme.

This certificate can be used when submitting their annual tax return to SARS.

Changing Or Cancelling Participation

Employees remain in control at all times.

Participants may:

• Increase or decrease their monthly contribution

• Change their selected charity

• Pause participation

• Opt out completely

These changes can be made by completing the relevant forms available on The Charity Project website.

A Simple Way To Make A Difference

The Charity Project was created around a simple belief:

When enough people make small contributions consistently, the collective impact can be extraordinary.

By making giving simple, transparent, and rewarding, we help businesses and employees turn generosity into a lasting habit.
